For those who love to read SDRostra, you may remember a blog post about Democrat Brittany Catton throwing her hat into the ring to run against Toni Atkins in June for the Democratic nod in the 2010 November 76th AD general election.
Toni has been a very strong candidate. She has the credentials and motivation to be a wonderful state assemblywoman. I even think she would be way better than the past three state assemblywomen to represent this district (Saldana, Kehoe and Davis) combined. I say that because Toni is one of those rare elected officials who actually enjoys communicating with constituents. Saladana enjoys being different and thinks outside of the box. Kehoe is an old-school politician. Davis was just on her way up to Congress. Atkins is just genuinely interested in serving her communities which is a very rare trait nowadays.
Apparently some rabid GOPers believe that Atkins can’t get a private sector job and is just hanging around waiting to land another government job (state assembly). That is far from the truth. In fact I think she actually has a lot to offer since I can’t figure out what either of the GOP candidates in the 76th AD primary has to offer. So several GOP fans on SDRostra appeared to go bonkers when word leaked that Brittany Catton was throwing her hat into the ring.
Brittany is actually a very nice woman with a lot of promise in her bright future. She definitely came in with confidence but left the race with both confidence and wide-open eyes. She understands how difficult it is to just run with no strong support from both traditional and non-tradition support bases. Brittany definitely had support from non-traditional supporters. She had well over 500 supporters on her FB page only three weeks into her candidacy. She also had that nice pro-military record as a Director for the San Diego Armed Services YMCA. I think she will eventually become a strong candidate in the next few years when she determines how she wants to serve her community.
Brittany sent out an email to her supporters last night announcing the official end of her campaign.
I look forward to seeing what she will do the next few years in terms of raising her name ID and potentially running for school board or even for state assembly again since she lives just a few blocks from the 78th AD lines and with redistricting coming up, she might end up being redistricted into the 78th AD which is a much more winnable district for someone running with low name ID but strong governmental relations background after Marty Block gets termed out in 2014.

I am a huge Brittany supporter and I think that this will only propel her farther in her career. I will be supporting her in the future.
I agree that Brittany will have a bright future in politics. I look forward to giving her my support when she runs for election again.
Toni Atkins isn’t the only one genuinely interested in serving her community. Brittany Catton demonstrates this every day in her professional and personal life. I too am a huge Brittany supporter.
I too, am a Brittany supporter and she is going to be a great state assembly woman when she chooses to run again and is elected. Her professionalism, passion and support for her community will contribute greatly to the district she chooses.
I will continue to support Brittany Catton along her path given her ideals and extraordinary conviction.
Brittany puts her all it everything she does. Her dedication to her community is evident in everything she does. All her supporters know she has great things instore for her and cannot wait for them to unfold. Brittany has my full support!
Hopefully we have reached a point in our political history where more, and more average citizens become interested in that which affects us all and become engaged in the political process to make it better for you and me. I hope Brittany Catton surfaces soon in a polling booth near you because she will have my vote.
